5. The First Annual Beat Bob Boyd 5k

First of all, Dr. Boyd was featured in a recent newspaper article.

On Sunday, December 27, 2009 Dr. Bob Boyd will hosted a 5k fun run.  It’ was designed for those that need a running fix to get them through the holiday season—there aren’t many, if any, races that time of year.  It was a non-scored, non-timed fun run for CJRRC members only.

Runners kept heir own times.

Dr. Boyd called the run the “Beat Bob Boyd 5k.”  Those who beat Dr. Boyd  got a certificate that said “I beat an old man with a pacemaker in the Beat Bob Boyd 5k.”  Those whom Dr. Boyd beat got a certificate that said “I got beaten by an old man with a pacemaker in the Beat Bob Boyd 5k.”

“The Beat Bob Boyd 5k went off without a hitch.  We had excellent weather, sunny skies, and great camaraderie.  There were 16 participants in this, the inaugural Beat Bob Boyd 5 K.  Today's runners showed that you don't have to have age group awards to have a good time.  We got our running fix during this otherwise slow racing weekend.  Six runners got a certificate saying that they beat an old man with a pacemaker, but 9 ran slower than 27:33 and had to accept certificates saying that they lost to an old man with a pacemaker. Mark O'Leary showed his competitive nature by beating Csaba Konya by less than a second.

My son, Tim, placed third.

I hope to make this an annual event on the last Sunday of December.”

                                                                        Dr. Bob Boyd

PS  Actually, there was one little glitch.  Four runners missed a turn and ran an extra mile.  It will make them appreciate course marshalls more.
